Choosing to transition to IP with SAM is simple and reliable assuring you the best possible solution without having to compromise your production switcher feature set or I/O configuration.
By engaging with several leading industry bodies, including AIMS, VSF, SMPTE and EBU SAM can provide customers with the best possible IP solution for their production switchers.
The IP offering from the Kahuna production switchers support uncompressed SMPTE 2022-6, TR-03 and lightly compressed SMPTE 2042 (VC- 2) and TICO connectivity on fins that can be populated the way you choose to achieve your IP objectives.
Choosing Kahuna can help make your IP transition stress free by offering flexible architecture, giving you the freedom to work in a hybrid mix and match workflow. Each Kahuna can be a mixture of SDI, fiber and IP fins with no restrictions. If you are currently working in an SDI domain and are planning to expand into the IP world, we can provide you with a scalable upgrade solution without any infrastructure headaches – Kahuna’s IP fins handle all the processing on-board with no need for extra external boxes.
The Kahuna accepts both 10Gbps and 40Gbps ports supporting 120 inputs and 48 outputs in HD and 60 inputs and 24 outputs in 1080p. Installation of the IP fins is simple and fast – they simply slot into the mainframe in place of one or more existing SDI fins. Critically, IP enabled Kahunas offer exactly the same unbeatable power and capabilities that Kahuna is renowned for – no compromises, just added IP interfaces.
Integrating Kahuna with SAM’s other IP-enabled products, including IQ Modular infrastructure, Sirius 800 Routers, MV 805 Multiviewers, sQ Servers and LiveTouch highlights and replay delivers a complete, all-encompassing live production environment that supports both SDI and IP.
Being able to mix both SDI and IP in the same mainframe in such a large I/O configuration really does make the Kahuna the most practical and leading production switcher on the market.
Kahuna is the only Production Switcher that can support HD SDI, IP and 12Gbps SDI single link and available across the entire Kahuna range.
For productions from UHD through to HD, Kahuna has an unmatched feature set. Now all that switcher power can be deployed in the new and emerging IP workflows or 12Gbps SDI single link plants without any creative compromise.
The unique flexible input/output architecture enables a transition from HD SDI to IP or 12 Gbps infrastructures as facilities change and embrace new formats and signal types within the broadcast environment.
IP connectivity is available over interchangeable rear Fins that will support uncompressed and compressed video formats.
Kahuna inputs and outputs stages are compliant with the latest developments in video over IP.
SMPTE 2022-6, SMPTE 2022-7, TR03 and TR04 are supported along with SMPTE 2042 (VC-2).
Kahuna, like any Edge device is connected directly to the switch at the heart of the IP plant. Kahuna can receive up to 120 IP Inputs and broadcasts the switcher outputs on to the video network.
UHD production is increasing especially in sports and Kahuna is found in the control room, gallery and truck. As the move into UHD is underway a means of 12Gbps SDI over a single coaxial cable or fi ber is required. Similar to the IP approach, the 12Gbps SDI inputs and outputs are supported by an interchangeable Fin.
Today the latest generation of Kahuna 9600 family is globally installed and working with 3Gbps/1.5Gbps/270Mbps productions. The flexible input and output approach will allow the mixed configurations of all Fin types with new and installed Kahuna 9600, 6400 and 4800 systems.
HD SDI, IP and 12Gbps SDI can all coexist in the one mainframe without losing any functionality or purchasing out board equipment.
This approach supports the investment for the production switcher now and for the future.
